You did it to me again AG. After a hard day at work, and knowing I had to make an early start this morning, I was up past midnight reading "the Road Less Traveled". I'm going to turn you into shoessssss!

heh *evil cackle*
Wasn't that a wonderful story? I am finding that I cherish any stories I can find that are written in Sherlock's POV (this one was half him, half John, which was interesting), since the vast majority are either John POV or narrator POV. Sherlock's mind is a many-splendored thing, lolololol.

Although this one is not so much about his brilliant mind but other equally brilliant body parts *coughing*

*thumps you on the back* There, there, are you okay now?
But everyone knows sex starts in the brain.... he had to believe he could "go there", not to mention "come there," *has choking fit of my own* to even make the first step in The Plan.

Thank you, better now.
Indeed. I just meant that we get some very different insights into the workings of his mind compared to his usual brilliant deductions about dogs hairs on trouser legs, etc.

*clears throat from last choking fit*
Ahem.
Well, you know a lot has been said in the fandom about Sherlock being asexual, and I acknowledge that I don't know exactly what that means from a psychological/clinical standpoint, but... from what I've been told (being female myself, I cannot know from my own experience), it'd be a rare male who didn't have a few rooms in his mind palace totally devoted to sex-- thinking about it, planning it, remembering it, wishing for it, hoping for it, whatever. So IMO Sherlock would be, by biology alone, probably making as many deductions about his sex life (or lack thereof, etc) than he would be about dog hairs on trouser legs. lololol He might stand there and pretend otherwise, but we know what *really* goes on under that sweet mop of curly dark hair, and at least part of those cerebral palace real estate is dedicated to X-rated movie houses.

This might be one of the best slash novels I've ever read. I love, love, love angst, and this one had plenty. I actually burst into tears at one point reading this today. *happy sigh*
So AG, inquiring minds want to know.....what part actually made you burst into tears? I'll tell you mine if you'll tell me yours.......

Oh, don't tell us here, please!
I still haven't read it to the end - I must have fallen asleep while reading last night...

OK, I'm not absolutely sure, but I think it was chapter 15, the one named Revelation. In the alley, John physically ill from what Sherlock had done to him, Harry coming to his defense and laying into Sherlock, Sherlock going home and crying on Mycroft's shoulder, bereft that he'd probably lost the one good thing he'd ever had in his life. I *love* angst, and that whole section had it in spades.

Yes, that was a great chapter. Couldn't stop reading.

Just finished "The Road Less Traveled". I liked it very much. Not as much as "Performance..." but all in all it was quite a joy to read. My favourite part was the scene in Regents Park on York Bridge (chapter "Desire") - I had to re-read it several times.

No, we don't. If even Mrs Hudson doesn't know, how shall WE?
I also read A Travel... and enjoyed it very much. After the first chapter I almost ended reading it because I thought "Oh, this is going to be yet another version of XistentialAngst's 'The Seduction of Dr. John Watson'" - which I had read first and really liked for being such a sweet little well written comedy.
However, this one turned out to be quite different, also hilarious at many moments, but with way more complex plot and characters, a powerful drama with lovely comedy elements.
What I also liked here - just a side issue - it is not about perfect bodies mating or outstanding large body parts. It just doesn't seem to matter, and I tend to find such details either ridiculous or tedious or both.
A nice little detail: The mentioning of a kiss on *John's* cheekbones - for a change .
And yes, there was also a part that made me burst into tears ...

This is what separates porn from homoerotic romance. One of the things, anyway.

Well, I noticed it also in other fanfics which I wouldn't consider porn because it's clearly not their main interest.
It just seems to me some writers can't stay away from a little stereotyping
A Road, that is, not a Travel ...

I think it's more that some writers are not skilled enough to write sex without making it read like porn. It can be very difficult, especially for an author who's very young, very inexperienced (as a writer or in their own life or both), or unused to writing dialogue and action for two men, rather than a het couple.
That's okay, though. We have 100s and 100s of Johnlock fics to choose from, and if one doesn't float our boat, we can just quietly close it up and go on to the next. And the next. And the next. Wheee! Fun.

You're absolutely right. Some time ago I wrote my first (heterosexual) sex scene and it was not easy to do it in a convincing way without turning it into porn. I was quite nervous about it. However, in Travel … it's done beautifully, I think.

Yes, it is. Madlori's stuff is gorgeously done as well.
Some romance is written explicitly, and it can come off as rough (the fic Two Two One Bravo Baker comes to mind), but if the style and characterizations fit the setting of the story, and if what they're up to (verbally, sexually, all of it) fits the situation, I can usually see it as non-porn.
Porn, to me, is a story that's told only to make sure two or more people get it on. In fan fic, it's called PWP (Plot? What plot?). Those fics can be fun at times-- short and to the point, no pun intended, lol. And sometimes PWPs actually include quite a lot of love/romance. It all depends on the author's ideas and writing skills, as well as the reason they wrote the thing to begin with.

Madlori's great. "Alone On The Water" just killed me.
