Where Sherlock's natural aloofness comes in handy. He remains calm in a life-threatening situation and can analyse what he needs to do in order to get both himself and John out of it

The stuff I read said he [his acting] was just fine, just the movie sucked. Not surprising, given the subject matter. And we know Ben could read the phone book to us, and we'd sit up and take notice.

Well, to me the movie didn't suck. It wasn't perfect, either, but it certainly didn't suck.
I can't really say if I'd been as interested in the subject matter if it hadn't been for Benedict, but I certainly like 'political' movies. So, I guess that even without Benedict I would at least have thought about watching it. Benedict's performance is fabulous and he certainly stands out, but to say that apart from his performance the film sucks... no, not for me.

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

Believe it or not, but I'm actually not a big fan of pics like that one with the top hat. I just think it's a bit too much... it's probably part of the job, and Benedict is playing a role there, at least that's the way I see it. Which is fine, it's just that I prefer pics where the... artificiality isn't all that obvious.
