I tend to think not.  They can make realistic looking armour in much lighter materials these days.  But even then they are still heavier than regular clothes.

In old time RL, it would have been chain mail, but when you really look at it in the close-up, this looks like plastic and probably is. I do wonder about the little hole in the front....  hmmmm.

I know some of the geeks I hang out with make their own armours and stuff... you can make some neat ones that don't weigh much... I'd assume they would do that for an actor.
