I am adding this theory to my head canon, thank you! Now, the hair is adorable, not terrifying. Chewed off is the right description!

I have another theory:

Conside what The Hair looked like in Serbia. It's hard to get a shot of it, but it looks like it's blond and super frizzy, so damaged from too much dye. That could explain the super dark Khan hair a few scenes later; the hair was cut and died back to as close to his natural colour as possible. But then, as it grew out, there was a colour difference and he had to keep dying it and it just got frizzier and frizzier as we got closer to the wedding...
