Thought it must be something like that

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

Think this reaction at the Q&A in Cracow was absolutely brilliant.

"Putin has outlawed swearing in Russia. Any actor that swears will be fined and jailed."

HAHAHAHAH
Right after he said it he looks so proud. I bet he's thinking "wow I'm a rebel".

I'd rather think he has something in his mind like "Such an ass ..." concerning Putin.

I think that's definitely what he's thinking gently - maybe something even stronger!

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

As much as I love Ben, I don´t like him making such cheap gestures.
It´s too easy to be bold against the regime that lays half a planet from where you live.

I cannot live without brainwork. What else is there to live for? Stand at the window there. Was there ever such a dreary, dismal, unprofitable world? See how the yellow fog swirls down the street and drifts across the dun-coloured houses. What could be more hopelessly prosaic and material? What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

But then if no one ever speaks out, only those "half a planet away" know what's going on there?
I don't think it's a cheap gesture - he's responding to a question that's been asked.
But we all see things differently of course - me, I absolutely adore him, but I wish he'd drop the pointing

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

I don´t know - to me it seems like kicking a picture of a lion, pretending you are really bold, where you would never dare to touch a real lion face to face.
But that´s just my opinion, of course.

Re: Favourite Sherlock/Benedict pictures

I am fine with that. It's just an immediate reaction. I didn't think he thought too much about it. A political statement should be different.

Agreed, Tinks, I think it´s good to take position against something you think is oppresive, even if it´s not in the face of the lion. People do it all the time, and not always in such an eloquent and funny way.. I guess in the face of the lion he´d be a tad more diplomatic.. (And I also agree about the pointing, I even thought that probably the only thing I could say to him if I should ever get the chance for a photo would be "Could you please not point?"  Yes, I like to show my adoration and affection openly..)

Yes, but if you support some political views from the country so different and distanced from yours, you are risking that your opinions on the matter might be flawed.
I know it´s an extreme example, but in the past it happened that famous playwright George Bernard Shaw supported Stalin´s regime in a naive belief that USSR is building some kind of utopia on earth.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1433323/How-Shaw-defended-Stalins-mass-killings.html

Now, what I find problematic on this, is that we don´t really know if majority of Russians support this new law or not.
If they support it, then it´s a bit condescending to scoff at the thing they chose for themselves as a society.

But politics doesn´t belong here, so let´s return to some cute Ben´s pictures:
