Is this the gal who was sitting next to him at least at one point during the show? To his right were Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, and to his right was a blond gal who looked a bit older than him. Could be a PR person, could also be a "seat filler". I don't know.

I don't think starlets come in ordinary-looking 40 or 45-year-old skin. She didn't look as though she was "with" him. I know those shows use seat-filler people, hired to move from seat to seat as people have to get up and leave theirs for a while--- there's a bit of shuffling around that happens at the commercial breaks. She could have also been someone associated with the 12 Years crew/cast.

Well, when he was being interviewed on the red carpet she kinda lingered in the background, waiting for him, Just like Lupita's brother did when she was being interviewed. That's why I wondered if she was a PA.

Yeah apparently she is his PA and her name (acc to twitter friend of mine) is called Karon.

Dress was ill-advised IMO...

Me, too. She acted like one. However "one of them" acts, but you know what I mean.She certainly didn't act like his date or like anyone he even really knew. I imagine that the 12 Years production company hired her to be his go-between for the evening. If he travels with a personal PR person, I've never gotten wind of it. ??? Hmm - I wondered who that was as she was with him all evening yet he didn't seem to acknowledge her that much.
Not a bad bonus for a job though - a night at the Oscars!

She's his PA (or whatever her job description might be exactly), she's always there with him on Red Carpets, you just don't see her all the time. She was with him at the premiere of The Hobbit in Berlin as well, it seems she keeps an eye on how much time he has to give autographs and sometimes she smoothly drags him along.

Oh that's interesting - is this something all Actors have at these events, do you know?
I guess they must all have "people" of some sort to smooth their way.
I was looking to see if she moved him on at all, but the nearest she came to that was when she moved a bit closer to him during one interview and he seemed to pick up her hint, and said he had to go (very nicely of course !)
I'm fascinated by how things work at these events - all the stars look like they've just rolled up for a fun night out, but in truth, everything has probably been planned with military precision.

At the Red Carpet of the Hobbit in Berlin she moved him along several times - okay, it was a pretty long Red Carpet. So I guess she wanted to give as many fans as possible a fair chance to get an autograph, no matter where exactly they were standing. She sometimes also hands him a bottle of water.

Oh, about other actors: I have no idea if all actors bring someone with them to such events, I would think they do. In case of the Oscars I'd say it's pretty helpful if there is someone who helps you decide where to go to give interviews and all that.

Yes, I think you must be right; in this case Ben's helper was very visible, I suppose - it's the first time I've noticed where he's concerned.
(Have to say, she might've got him to straighten his tie before he did the carpet!!
I notice in the other thread that Fassbender finally did it for him: D)
