I thought about going to St. Bart´s, too, but had only time left for one location so I chose North Gower Street instead.. more happy memories. Reading about your reactions now Lilytiell makes me think it was the right decision! Actually I´m pretty happy right now that my trip to London has rekindled my love for Sherlock a bit..

TV says it has been nice weather outside today with nice temperatures. They are talking 10 degrees celcius but honestly, when I was out for a walk, it was barely more than 5°, and I was sooo cold. Please make winter go away......

It's snowing! In October!

Shhhhh!! Don't tempt it to come up here!
it's so cold here! A few surprise warm days but it's getting really cold! on the plus side it'll soon be time to bring out my new faux fur coat.
But my flat is icy cold... I'm trying to keep the heat turned off for as long as possible so I can get some money back on the heating bill next year (that's how I could afford going to London)...

Stay warm Phantom! I hope you have blankets and warm clothes that you can use.
It's been slowly getting cooler where I am, but it still hasn't been really cold very much. Maybe 5 or 10 Celcius, but we haven't really gone down to 0 yet as I recall. Still, it will be happening soon and I don't really mind.

It has two faces really. I was totally angry about the snow, because cold, because wet stuff, nooope. But then I talked to my Marokkean friend and she was soooo excited about the snow and said she never saw any proper snow. Now I'm wishing for snow on her behalf. I mean, snow is really not my favourite because it comes along with the cold (snow itself is not that bad actually), but I really think it's a great experience. I told her when we got proper snow, we'll go... yeah, vocabulary where is it... the thing where you slide down a slope with a little wooden sleigh??? Now help me with that word please *laugh*

Also, Phantom, I think you're doing a good job with saving on the heating. Just don't get too cold, wrap yourself warm, and when it starts freezing outside, please consider turning the heating on! We once had a faulty heating in London during winter, and temperatures dropped to 10 degrees inside the flat... it was really bad. Never been so cold at breakfast! :D
No, I actually like the idea of only using the heating if it's really necessary, because we have got warm clothes everybody, and so many of my friends totally overheat their flats... everybody talks saving energy and stuff, but heating is really an easy way to do it. My room is always on 18 degrees instead of the warmer 21 which most people choose. I'm never cold, I just wear pullovers instead of t-shirts inside. Really wonder why so many people don't like snuggling into their pullovers... it's the best thing in winter, with a hot tea...

Tobogganing, Whisky! Or sometimes people just call it "sledding." I love tobogganing, and skating also. And snow.
I agree that it's not good to overheat your living space. Not only because it uses more energy and can be suffocating, but also because it's more comfortable for sleeping if your room isn't too hot. There have been studies that beeing a bit cooler is better (also it means you can put on more blankets if you like that). And yeah, if you've got warm clothes it's not a big deal if you don't have a lot of heating.
I'm living in my university residence right now, though, so I don't really have control over the heating. It's just on whether I like it or not. It hasn't gotten cold enough yet, so I just have my window open all the time to keep my room from getting hot and stuffy. We don't need the heating here yet, but for some reason one of our classroom was 27 Celcius on Tuesday! They fixed it because it was just awful. Even in the dead of winter that's just too hot.

Under normal circumstances I do love snow, it's beautiful!
It's not good for my sick back to have my heating off, but I do try to wrap up and take hot showers (I don't pay for water for some reason). But I spend most of my days wrapped up in bed. But the money is a good motivator!
The first year they raised my monthly heating bill, and they don't lower it even if I use significantly less... but it means around June I get all the money back from the heating I didn't use. This year the amount was big!
And I can't deny I love not poluting the environment unnecesarily.
I don't sleep well if it's too warm. I get headaches and end up tossing and turning a lot more than normally.

We had snow the other day too. Not a lot and it didn't stay, but snow in our part of Canada in October is considered to be kind of early. I don't mind it... I just start to loathe it around February though!
In other Canadian news... We now have a new Prime Minister! Justin Trudeau - the 43 year old son of one of our past PMs. Although I didn't vote for him (but my husband did) I am very happy he did get in. He is an intelligent, caring man who is someone with a lot of integrity.
And he is married to a beautiful woman named Sophie who he knew many years before they reconnected, fell in love and got married rather quickly (remind you of anyone else?? ). They now have 3 lovely young children.

We got a bit of snow over the weekend, but it didn't stay (just made our field for the lacrosse game temporarily white, it was falling quite profusely despite the fact that it didn't last or really accumulate). I took some photos. But then again, my campus is in Quebec, so it's not quite so unexpected at this time.
I stayed up until nearly 11:30 last night watching the Blue Jays game and the election results with another guy in my residence (I had not intended to watch for so long, but I was enjoying myself). It was pretty exciting, the Liberal sweep of the Maritimes, 33 seats before anyone else got any, was quite an unexpected start. It was exciting to see how it all played out. I honestly thought Trudeau might win, but I didn't expect it to be so obvious from the beginning (I voted for Trudeau, but my riding ended up being a Conservative riding, there were so many of our incumbent's signs on my street it's not that surprising. Still, if our Liberal candidate had been elected it would have been one more woman in parliament). The NDP really crashed and burned. I was not expecting that. Especially not to the extent that it happened.
I'm looking forward to seeing what this means, a new leader after 10 years with the same person, and with someone young.
Maybe it's because we're still in the moment, but I wonder if this is what people felt in the past when other exciting political moments happened. I feel like I'm living through something special and important.

Yes, I personally was very disappointed and surprised that the NDP didn't do better but at least Thomas Mulcair retained his seat. He is a seasoned politician who will take it in stride and evaluate the results to see where the party will go from here.
And despite the NDP results the only thing that really mattered to me was that there would be a definitive change from the Conservative government (and the personal mean-spirited, sneaky politics of our own little "dictator" Mr. Harper). So the election of Justin Trudeau is a very weclome part of that needed change IMO.
I remember his father well (and even voted for him on occasion), have read a number of his books, and respected him a great deal. If the son is half of what his dad was he will be a passionate, thoughtful, fair-minded leader who will be good for this country. Can't ask for more from a politician.

Happy Back to the Future Day everyone! So, has anyone been out on their hoverboard today?

@Val
Yes, I too am glad that we have a definitive change from Harper's leadership for so long. One of my profs is still sceptical how much change we'll really get, but I still hope that something good will come of this and I was a little disappointed at her seemingly trying to crush my hope.
@ukaunz
Thank you, even though it's still the 20th for me. Wish I could say I had a hoverboard, but alas...

Happy Back to the future day!
I could use a hoverboard!!
The other day at the cinema I had to explain what Back to the Future was to my best friend, they were advertising some event where they'd be showing the film... My friend doesn't bother with 'modern' trivia and doesn't even know who Justin Bieber or the likes are. I've told her to please keep that up.

Laughing at myself because I just went on Twitter and saw a tweet from Amanda Abbington pop up, and I'm like, cool, I'm online at the same time as Amanda!

Btw, are you ahead of us or behind us? Is it the beginning of 21 or the end for you?
