I watched the film three times so far and keep discovering new things. I think it is a masterpiece in so many respects: acting, writing, cinematography, music, set design, just everything. I am very much in favour of the changes they made to the novel, leaving out much of the Gordons's story because it would have been too much for one film.
And do not get me started on the actors, what a beautiful talented ensemble cast. Of course Benedict is close to my heart and I wish him all the awards but they are all perfect in their own right.
A dark story indeed but it did not depress me because it is such an amazing film.

P.S. I would be interested in the cut line as well.

Yes, this is really sad. However, I am very glad that they were able to keep it private. He chose to talk about it in the podcast instead of it being spread by the media themselves.

I am very excited for the film and happy that it will be on Netflix as of tomorrow. Going to the cinema feels too dangerous at the moment.

Wow, so much amazing news about the film. It will be presented at no less than 6 major festivals. It will be opening feature in Venice and at London Film Festival. I am just re-reading the book and it is so, so good.

I am so glad to hear all these positive things about the film. I am still a bit nervous about going to the cinema with so many people. And of course I do not want to see a dubbed version so I ordered the DVD. 25 November cannot come soon enough.

I am glad to hear about the message, besley.

And I was very sad to hear about Una's death but I think she had a long and fulfilled life. I read she died surrounded by her family. And of course she never will be forgotten as our Mrs Hudson.

I also wondered how Benedict must feel about her death since he knew her as a boy and she was a friend of his mum.

Yes, but you can only buy it with a US credit card. I tried, believe me.

So have I. Brilliant.
My son even has Prime but since we are in Germany I cannot watch "The Courier" which is a shame since cinemas have been closed from November until now as well.

Of course. But subtitles would have helped. I kept asking myself if native speakers did understand everything he said. And do not get me started on "Wreckers" and "The Last Enemy", both without subtitles as well.

I watched this last night. While I liked it and thought it was good, I didn't love it. Benedict was great (though I didn't know that we would be seeing him naked in this, so just be warned!) and there were some exciting scenes, but there were a couple points where I think I had a bit of trouble understanding why things were happening the way they were.
I thought the actor playing the Russian, "Ironbark," was good, but he tended to speak very quietly (even in the scenes where other characters were not speaking very quietly), so I had to pump up the volume to hear some of the scenes properly. A few times I had to go back and listen again. In general, the quiet scnes were really quiet compared to the rest, which I found kind of frustrating. I don't know if anyone else will have this frustration, but it might have affected my enjoyment a bit.

Actually, seeing Benedict naked is an additional incentive for me and I really hope that I will get to see it in Germany. No hope for open cinemas so far so I probably have to wait for the DVD. There is video on demand but just for the US.
As for the speaking - same in Germany. I sometimes watch German films with subtitles because either the music is too loud or the actors are mumbling their lines. No idea why they do not their best to make people understand them. Of course this may be part of the characterisation but not always. I remember my despair when watching "Stuart - A Life Backwards" trying to understand Tom Hardy with no subtitles available.

Sorry, I overlooked this. And having read about Fox and his views, I really cannot believe that he and Benedict have more in common than the things you mentioned.

Another upcoming project for Benedict - on Netflix for which I am grateful because watching his films in German cinemas has always been late and tedious:

Yep, me too. I am a vegetarian. And it does not really sound enticing. But the video was very funny.

Thanks for the thread, Liberty. I just took down some more. Although we are not as active as before we should not let the forum drown in spam. As for the song, now I will have to check it out. But not the food. https://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/grin.png
