Canon Sherlock breaks into houses or sneaks around where he shouldn't be in multiple stories (The copper beeches, The illustrious Client, The Colourman case). Which would be way more difficult nowadays, so her skill set might come in handy.

A good point.  I think that Sherlock would not be opposed to making use of Mary's skills on future cases if they will help him get closer to the solution.  Sherlock has never been one to not do something just because it is illegal either in the canon or this series; although I do believe there are limits to that.  I do think that Sherlock would oppose indiscriminate killing though.

But Moriarty was Sherlock's equal...Mycroft is supposed to be smarter than Sherlock, so it makes sense that he is smarter than Moriarty, too. Magnusson was Mycroft's equal...which is most likely one of the reasons Mycroft avoided to take him on.

I hadn't thought about that.  Now that you mention it, it does make sense.  It kind of makes me wonder if Mycroft already knew that there were no actual files.  That would support why Mycroft, being "the government", wouldn't have already made a move against Magnusson.  Maybe he was biding his time until Magnusson slipped up and didn't want Sherlock to interfere and jeopardize himself based on the false assumption that there was actual physical evidence somewhere.

I drew it based on a weird dream I had a long time ago...the Sherlock references just kinda happened to coincide.

"The Dark is Rising" series by Susan Cooper.  This series really pushed me into reading as an adolescent and I'm not sure how many times I've re-read it.  Also, it's on of the first things my husband and I found out we had in common back in high school as I was the only other person he know that read it.  We were both huge fans!  (And still are over a decade later.)

I came across this book awhile back and read it in a couple days.  It was pretty interesting.

It almost seems that we were shown so much of the emotional side of Sherlock to better weight the scale for opinions of him after he killed CAM.  I wonder how the opinions would vary about Sherlock's action if it had happened before we had all the emotional development of him throughout this season?

Honestly, I loved it all!  It was far different than what I expected and that made it even better.  I especially loved the interactions between Sherlock and Mycroft.

More important, Sherlock Holmes had his dark side, too. He was not all lawful, he often let criminals get aways with their crime when he considered their motives sound. Sometimes he acts himself like a blackmailer in a way, pressuring guilty parties to pay for what they want to keep secret. We have gotten so used to "Sherlock Holmes the Hero" that we have forgotten that he was not written as one, but as a flawed character - with a fascinating intellect.

That's wonderfully put!  I completely agree and feel like this season has really shown us more of the Sherlock that I remember reading in the canon, especially in relation to this episode, but definitely updated.

I'm not sure if this has been brought up as I don't want to go back through all 27 pages of this thread; but I must say that overall I am very happy that the theory was left rather ambiguous.  There is a Latin quote from Sherlock in "The Red Headed League", "Omne ignotum pro magnifico", which means "everything unknown is taken as grand".  (According to Merriam-Webster.com.)  I feel like this sums it up very nicely.  If we know for absolute certain how he did it there will always be many left unsatisfied; just like Anderson was.

Thanks for the screenshots!  I'm thinking continuity error also but can't wait to find out for sure.

As CAM says "they are harmless", maybe he just underestimated them and did not check them again for this reason?

That's what I thought.  Seemed like he figured he already won.
