Yes, somehow similar. But Multiple Identity disorder is quite different than an imaginary friend.  Sherlock actually dissociates into Euros--not just imagines her. That's why he says Sherlock is a girl's name.

Yes, that's what happens in ACD canon. The jealous half brother poisons the dog first and then the toddler.

I think it'll be slightly different in TFP.
Something's for sure, Sherlock blames himself for the death of Euros. That's why he so easily accepts that Mary's death was his fault.

I've had this theory for a long time. Sherlock suffers from multiple personality disorder.

Multiple Personality Disorder is also known as dissociative identity disorder. It is caused by a childhood trauma. I think we see Sherlock dissociate a lot on the show.

I incorporated his diagnosis in my fanfic The Adventures of the Dying Detective's Husband way before s4 started. (See link here if you're into Johnlock:

In my story Sherlock's childhood trauma was based on the Sussex Vampire. It seems S4 might go there too. It kinda spooks me, to tell you the truth.

I agree that the fall explanation given to Anderson is false. In fact, Sherlock never jumped off the roof of St-Bart's.
I don't think Sherlock has been in a coma, but I do think he has a mental illness.

Also, I repeat from before: Lestrade is the Lying Detective! (Especially after a re-watch of TAB).

if you want my reasoning! :D

Well, it's getting close now... I guess I'd like to add my long list of wild speculations to this thread.

1) Sherlock never jumped off Bart's roof in TRF.  (It was an illusion using Pepper's Ghost and a projection on the facade of the wall).
2) Victor Trevor will make an appearance in S4.
3) There's a specific reason why Sherlock can't remember Lestrade's name.
4) Moriarty is dead. (It's a computer program).
5) Sherrinford is Mycroft's twin.
6) John's addiction to danger is the reason the new recruits died.
7) The Final Problem will also be based on The Problem of Thor Bridge (A tale of murderous jealousy and revenge).
8) Sherlock suffers from a dissociative identity disorder. (All explained in my fanfic The Adventures of the Dying Detective's Husband. Sorry, Johnlock fic).
9) Hypnosis/ mind control will play a role at some point in S4.
10) Harry Watson will make an appearance.
11) Mary is based on ACD Birdy Edwards and ACD Effie Munro.
12) Lestrade will be part of a huge plot twist.
13) Mary has a secret child and I think Mary will die doing something heroic.
14) Redbeard was Sherlock's mentor (and possibly Moriarty's as well).
15) We will see some kind of cult (like the illuminati) or something.
16) A.G.R.A. will relate back to ACD The Sign of Four
17) In TRF, Sherlock accessed Moriarty's recall code by copying his eye biometric pass code. Moriarty trumped him by having a second biometric passcode; his heartbeat. That's why he killed himself.
18) Baby Watson is real.
19) U.M.Q.R.A will somehow be related to A.G.R.A (just because I think it's too much of a coincidence they both end in R.A.!)
20) Romantic John/Sherlock is endgame.

Well there you have it!! I have a feeling I'm going to be laughing at myself when I re-read this list after S4 is over! LOL!

I like this theory. Yes, it's quite possible that Sherlock has killed someone while he was high. I was thinking about that scene in TAB where Sherlock's frantically digging to find the body of E. Ricoletti and then a skeleton rose from the grave singing "do not forget me..." I thought it could be someone he accidently killed in the past.

I think that Mary has two game-changing secrets that explain all of the plot holes in S3.

First: She’s a double agent.
Second: She has a secret child.

The Secret Child is the invisible thread that connects everything together.I have an abundance of ACD canon facts supporting this premise, but first here’s a visual to highlight my point.

I believe that Mary is based on Effie Munro; the suspicious wife in The Yellow Face. Here’s a quick numeral summary of the parallels.
* Effie moved to the UK five years ago.
*She hides her past from her husband.
*She is obviously involved in something shady.
*Her husband catches her sneaking off and she refuses to explain herself or defend herself.
*Her dear husband forgives her without further explanation. Okay, this is important: not only does her husband forgive her… but he forgives her using almost the same speech John used to forgive Mary (the essence of the message is exactly the same even if the wording is a bit different).

You are at liberty to preserve your secret, but you must promise me that there shall be no more nightly visits, no more doings which are kept from my knowledge. I am willing to forget those which are past if you will promise that there shall be no more in the future

* It turns out Effie was hiding her child from a previous relationship.
* It is a locket with the picture of the child that reveals the secret. Now remember the necklace Mary was wearing?

Well, Moffatt, Gatiss, and Sue have said in the DVD commentary of HLV that the necklace has meaning and explains something.

Sue: She’s got a necklace there, hasn’t she?
Mark: Yes, we’ll have to explain that at one point.

Well, it's always easier to disprove something than to prove it (hence Null's hypothesis). My take on this debate is that if you believe Johnlock is end game, then you are making a conclusion by extrapolating from presented facts.  Personally, I believe there's enough data that points in the direction of John and Sherlock being together romantically to make a prediction ahead of time. (By the way, I've already presented what I based my prediction on a few days ago on this thread, so I'm not going to repeat it... unless someone wants me to! :D).
I find it interesting that people think that it's about "gonads" or "sex" between John and Sherlock, though. I personally think we're witnessing one of the greatest love stories ever told and that the protagonists just happen to both be men. I think that they have slowly fallen in love with each other and that physical intimacy is just a natural progression to express that love. Yes, John Watson claims to "Not be Gay" and Sherlock claims to "Not be interested in feelings " but to me that's what will make this so powerful because despite all of these "obstacles", their love for each other will trump these so-called hurdles.
I don't see Mary as a reason to dismiss the evidence I have gathered to make a Johnlock prediction. She is obviously an obstacle that comes between the two love interest, but that's what elevates the stakes even more. I love that she's there. It will makes the reward of getting John and Sherlock even more gratifying!
(As an aside, I don't hate Mary. I'm predicting that she's going to have one of the biggest plot twist on the show and blindside everyone (especially Johnlockers). But this is not the place to elaborate on this, so I'll post my theory in a different thread!)
Okay, back to the debate: I guess the point I'm trying to make is that the concrete evidence for Johnlock obviously doesn't exist yet. I can't show you the facts because they haven't materialized yet.

Here's my humble 2 cents.

While I agree with all of Liberty's well thought-out counter points to the Johnlock debate, I still believe that Johnlock will be end game.

I’ve read through most of the thread and the central argument seems to boil down to the difference between ‘loving’ and being ‘in love’ with the general agreement that some sort of physical element is needed for love to be considered romantic as opposed to platonic.

I’ve thought about this a lot and it’s hard to put into words exactly why I’m certain that Johnlock will happen. I have a science background and tend to prefer concrete facts to subjective interpretations and sub-text. ;)

With that being said, here are my top 3 reasons why I think John and Sherlock will be involved romantically. I've tried to place them in some sort of order that goes from the general to the more specific.

Reason #1: Quantity does matter. Throughout the first ten episodes we have been given many moments that could potentially be interpretedas Johnlock/romantic.But, as Liberty proved, each individual incident can be explained platonically/neutrally.Collectively, we are left with many moments that can be interpreted both ways--hence this debate!)

For me, it’s the volume and frequency of these ambiguous moments that becomes data unto itself. Why are there so many? Why are we even arguing about this? It’s not the first time we’ve seen a show with a close friendship between two men (goodness, the amount of cop shows/movies!) but have we ever debated to this extent whether there’s something more?

Personally, I see few moments that I would purely label Johnlock--just two in fact-- but two is enough for me to extrapolate that the entire show is a slow-burn romance, showing a shift from friendship to more.

(Maybe all these layered moments is what falling in love looks like. ;))

Reason #2: We’ve been told it’s a romance!

BBC Sherlock has all the eleme

Okay, I'll play!
I'm calling it now: There will be a plot twist revolving around Lestrade.

Reason #1:  Because I believe there's a reason why Sherlock cannot remember Lestrade's first name. Yes, the first time in THoB, it was funny but to have it happen repeatedly... something's up.
Think about it...
Sherlock remembers Anderson's first name: Phillip.
He also remembers Molly's fiance's first name: Tom.

There are two things that can cause name amnesia:
1) Trauma (something associated with the name becomes a mental block)
2) Name amnesia hypnosis. (Derren Brown explains it in his book 'Tricks of the Mind 'that you can make someone forget a name (even your own) by simple hypnotic suggestion. (As an aside, Derren Brown explains how he made two of his friends believe they had seen an elephant in a room in college. ;) )

Anyway, the fact that Greg never gets mad when Sherlock forgets his name tells me it's probably #2.
Why would Sherlock be triggered to forget Lestrade's first name? I don't know.

Reason #2: The Lying Detective could be about Lestrade.

Reason #3: Holmes has a fallout with Scotland Yard in ACD canon. Actually, I think the last time Holmes talks to Lestrade is in The Six Napoleons.

Anyway, we'll see! :D

Edited to correct a speeling mistake. *blushes*

I got tickets too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I rehearsed a few times so I could book them faster and it worked. It feels surreal. I'm so excited. I can't believe I'm going to London! (I don't like flying and I don't like leaving my ill son behind... so it takes a mighty powerful thing to get me out of the house!) I'm so grateful that I get to go. Sherlock has been my most effective therapy for dealing with my son for years now. I wish everyone could go.

I solemnly swear not to post spoilers of any kind.  xo
