Mary as "the other one" doesn't make sense to me...What...long lost sister that Sherlock doesn't recognize? Moffat/Gatiss wouldn't make the story so very complicated...working for Mycroft somehow I could believe, but not as their sister...

Another interesting that may (or may not) link into S3 - when someone from the audience asked how it was to be around your relatives when doing the show, Ben immediately jumped on him playing with his parents. Unless his parents are part of S4, that was years ago, and it would make more sense for Amanda to answer that question (who plays with Martin).

So either Mummy and Daddy Holmes are part of S4, or Ben just got carried away again.

Ben's dad was spotted at setlock location I believe, but no photos or reports go with that, so it wasn't entirely clear if he was filming or just meeting up with Benedict for lunch.  LOL  But I agree, he talked like he just worked with them again and with thinking that we will get more family background in S4 it makes sense that we will get to see them in a short scene again.

I don't remember anymore.  I listened to the ThreePatch podcast and they seemed to think it was legitimate reporting, but would have to go listen again to be certain.

Me, three.  We know there's going to be some mind-palace in episode 2, but I can't wait to see it, sounded interesting from setlock reports, but I'm sure we'll get loads of real-time action.

Wait a minute... a little girl that was supposedly Mary? Wow, I've missed something here, what was this?!

During Setlock there's some kind of scene with a blonde girl running around in what is deemed a flashback scene and nobody is sure how it fits in the storyline. Are we seeing a little Mary here, or is Sherlock's sibling a blonde sister rather than a brother.... All pure conjecture at this time.  :-)

Like some of you, I do still get the feeling it might be Sherlock, and yes, connected to Toby's character in some way, and possibly absconding from hospital again.

I totally agree, that makes a lot of sense.  I went by the Dying Detective reference thinking Sherlock looks so aweful because he's sick (and since he's by himself at times and still looks awful, it probably wouldn't be just playing sick) but I do like the rehab idea---never crossed my mind, but now that the Sherlock panel says the season shows struggle with drug addiction that would be a distinct possibility...

I would think that episode 1 will actually be mostly real-time and action packed, judging by setlock reports and may have the most witty moments, with baby, dog etc...this is the episode with all the sports car stuff and embassy goings on"  I rather think episode two with "Dying Detective" influences will have the most flashbacks and mind-palace, from what we've seen from setlock.  Episode three is the most mysterious one where there's not much of a picture for me from what setlock provided...and if Moriarty is dead then this will be containing some flashbacks  as well.  :-)

I also find it interesting that there is not one single scene that shows any kind of domestic bliss or cosy moments.

I don't think there will be much focus on "Uncle Sherlock" in this season as some feared.

I think that's only the choice of what to put in the trailer.  In the panel discussions they assured there would also be light and funny moments, which I assume will include some with the baby in episode one, judging by setlock and evidently at least one funny moment with the dog, since Gatiss says they had to write one, since Denver, the bloodhound, didn't cooperate during filming---make necessity the mother of invention of a good scene that was not planned.  LOL

I actually think it's very realistic.  He thought it over and evidently thinks that the best way to have a future with Mary is leaving the past behind, like she planned on doing.  It entirely depends on a person's personality how they decide these type of things.  If he feels he can deal with it easier not knowing the details of what she has done in her past life, he might very well decide to leave it alone and not read through those documents...

JP---yes, the violin playing is a shame.  BC doesn't do a bad job with posture and holding...but they really should have cared about synching up the music, reviewing a practice and correcting the bow strokes as necessary.  I just look to the side in those scenes.  LOL  I also don't know why they don't watch the foreign language stuff.  In the US series "Covert Affairs", the lead character goes to Berlin and supposedly talks in perfect German, acting like a native and it's anything but....I guess they never shoot these shows with people in mind that may be multi-lingual...hahaha...but it ruins the entire impression for sure.

So JP---did Mark comment on the "bad German" stuff when you asked him?  I was surprised, because I thought: 'Couldn't they find a few more Germans to say "Nicht schuldig" for MHR?'  I mean, they could have doubled up and the real Germans they had, could have repeated in a slightly different tone of voice and nobody would have noticed.  LOL

I'm with BesleyBean on this one---let's simply remember that Gatiss/Moffat are usually trying to follow the books.  This means that John loved his Mary, he married his Mary, he will lose his Mary.  Both writers are also saying that the friendship of Sherlock & John is the greatest in history.  Watson moved out and lived with his wife for a while, so does he in this series.  I just don't know why we have to bash Mary and act like the very obvious affection between her and John is non existent.  Their falling in love happened several months before our season 3 begins, because it's a side story.  During HLV their relationship is obviously in crisis.  Yes, you won't hear John spout good things about her during that episode when he's very upset finding out her identity, but you also have them reunite and give each other a heartfelt, sincere long hug at Christmas when they reunite.  At this point I'm simply trusting the writers to play this out naturally, whichever way they choose to go and I'm absolutely sure that we will see that the Sherlock/John friendship (or relationship) however you want to see it will remain strong and intense and everything we want it to be in series 4.  Now, not saying that events don't leave marks on our two heroes...and on us, but I think that's the interesting journey we take within this series.  :-)

Fun subject!  And I'm amazed that each of us has different favorites.  It's fascinating!

A Study in Pink
Wonderful opening episode.  Don't have anything that I dislike.  It's all so well-rounded and perfectly done.  Love the entire ending with the cabbie and Sherlock not being able to resist considering taking the pill.  Favorite moment, hard to pick only one---but let's say the drugs bust scene, the look Sherlock gives John when John says "I don't think you will find anything you could consider recreational."

The Blind Banker
Well, like many people I think this is the weakest episode of the entire regular series, though I may not dislike it as much as some other people.  I still watch it and enjoy it, but I think Soo Lin's monolog at the museum is so haltingly done, that on rewatch it seems to drag a bit in this otherwise always so fast-paced show.  Don't like that the black lotos blossoms left at the crime scenes are basically disregarded in dialog, like a piece they built in and then forgot to really incorporate.  Don't like that Sarah, who is such a strong woman, and even hits one of the bad guys with a pipe at the circus brawl is suddenly reduced to a hysteric & paralyzed damsel in distress, only to appear all smiles a moment later after rescue...just didn't fit at all.

I do think this episode actually advances our understanding of our two main characters quite a bit:

Sherlock has no regard of personal property, by taking John's laptop, but doesn't carry a grudge either when John takes it so abruptly away from him.  He's generous by immediately telling John to take his debit card when John tells him about being broke.  We see in this episode that Sherlock rarely tries to justify or explain himself (for the people that still cannot believe why he hasn't told John about why he jumped off the building in "Reichenbach"---here's a hint that he just NEVER justifies himself):  When John complains about Sherlock "just sitting there all morning" he doesn

Yes, that would be very possible that it is the reverse.  Didn't notice anybody else matching...there's the security guy right before the pilot appears...I think one of Mycroft's men, but the face doesn't look familiar.

It's an interesting/fascinating idea---but seems complicated and I don't think they would go quite so far to nix part of HLV episode as part of the drug induced dream,  I also don't get the impression that season 4 opens with coma scenes. They did show Sherlock out about town around London though during first weeks' of shooting so he seems to be his active self in opener.  Big MP scene seems to be second episode and there's so much they filmed away from prying eyes that we really cannot tell how this will develop.  I'm an optimist though and predict we will be on another fun roller coaster ride.  :-)

John:  Colleague!

LOL  :-)  We should be happy they all are so close to each other John, Mary and Sherlock.

This is from a Tumblr post by inevitably-johnlocked recently. Everything the characters ever say about eachother, except for Mary's. Sums it all up, to me:

John about Sherlock:

  • brilliant
  • amazing
  • quite extraordinary
  • fantastic
  • my best friend
  • the most human … human being
  • you were the best man
  • You were the best and the wisest man that I have ever known.”
  • “’Course you’re my best friend.”

Sherlock about John:

  • This is my friend, John Watson.
  • My friend John Watson
  • the bravest and kindest and wisest human being I have ever had the good fortune of knowing
  • invaluable
  • one feature, and only one feature, of interest in the whole of this baffling case, and quite frankly it was the usual. John Watson.

John about Mary:

  • my lying wife
  • the woman who’s carrying my child who has lied to me since the day I met her
  • client
  • assassin
  • my pregnant wife
  • my wife

Isn't this quite selective? hahaha

How about John To/about Sherlock:
You Machine
the other one is a complete dickhead
I'm going to kill you
I always hear punch me in the face

John to/about Mary
She's completely changed my life
Best day of my life (wedding day)
Meeting you is the best thing that could have happened to me

What I'm saying is---selectively listing of random comments can be very misleading.  LOL
