I'm willing to beta if anyone needs help; I also kind of need one, pretty urgently. :D

Hello Harriet

Bit late back to this as the fic essentially got abandoned for a couple of months. The fic is about 39 pages long; considering spreading it over two chapters.

Throwing this out here -

For some time I've had on my computer a Sherlock and genderswapped John fic; however, the subject matter is very delicate with regards to the baby - it takes place after Series 3/The Abominable Bride. It's in desperate need of a beta; I'm also going to ask on LJ tomorrow during the Tuesday Beta. But would anyone potentially be interested to know more?

Be Here Now is hands-down one of the best Sherlock fics I've ever read. For me, one of the best things about it was how tender the romance is between Sherlock and John. The love-scenes got me on the first go because they were just right; John was caring and compassionate and Sherlock was trusting and it all just went together so nicely. It was everything I didn't realise I needed with this pairing; it was just the kind of thing I'd been looking for. Sure, Kill Switch takes them into incredibly dark territory but hang in there. Do hang in. It's worth it.

Hello all,

Question: does anyone know when the wedding actually takes place? I know Mary said they want a May wedding, but according to the blog it was moved to August? Also, there's Mary's pregnancy to take into account; she's not that pregnant at the beginning of HLV, not to my eyes, which tells me she's in the early stages when Sherlock deduces it, but she's very heavily pregnant by Christmas, and they know they're having a girl, which tells me that she's about six months? (Am I right in remembering that it's the second scan that tells what the sex is?)

Anyway, if someone could let me know; I need to find out for a fanfic I'm working on.

Thanks,

TC x

I actually agree with you about pilot-John; he seems a little more open and to me, friendlier. I must admit, like you he's more the sort of John I imagine in fics. He's softer around the edges and a little gentler. Kinder and easier.

John does seem very angry and grumpy in Series 3, especially in HLV. I was watching HOB last night and I noted that he seemed very content and balanced with what he had, despite some difficulties along the way, Sherlock locking him in a lab and going into 'I don't have friends' mode being the most prominent! All that changed in time. It's one of the reasons why S3 is so hard to watch because John's grumpiness seems to make him somewhat unaware of the effect it can have on those around him - again, in HLV, he's offensive towards a neighbour, he's struggling with married life and missing the thrill of the chase and he even calls Mycroft when it comes to Sherlock's drug-taking, which to me indicates impatience and a kind of 'I'm not doing this on my own,' approach which he might not have taken three years earlier.

So yes, I'm hoping John calms down and lets himself breathe, if only to save his skin from angry fans like me who would like to see him be a little less snappish. At the moment, I must admit I'm more fond of pilot-John than I am of real-John.

I'm hoping to get the old John back in S4; I wanted to wring his neck by the end of HLV. I want to see him and Mary have an argument or two, because I can't see them having a happy ending and I think John was starting to kid himself in Appledore when Magnussen taunted him about Mary; there was a certain desperation there. I want him to do something good by Sherlock - acknowledge how much he's done for him (faked his death, took his beatings, forgave Mary and shot Magnussen) and just try and be a good friend.

But, given in the books Watson himself admits that he drifted away from Holmes for a while, well... *shrugs* I dunno, I just want things to be better between them.

Well, there's about two chapters to go and Chapter 5 is mostly written. It's been getting tinkered with for four years.

Thanks for your thoughts. I've realised - through some fanfiction - that Sherlock's bullet wound may have lasting effects. I'd really like to see John worrying about him more and focusing more on that side of it, because we never really saw a lot of that.

My other hope is that John has in fact made a copy of the memory stick and that he is holding out on Mary.

There is that, yes!

As for the blog - the moment where I was the most upset was the entry for TGG, when John does say that maybe Donovan is right and that maybe Sherlock is a freak. That was incredibly heartbreaking; the whole point of their friendship is that John was never supposed to say that. Even if he's thinking it, when he's unsure or frustrated with Sherlock, he was never meant to say that. How hurtful. If I'd have been Mycroft and read that I would have purloined John once more and given him a talking to.

I'm kind of hoping that Sherlock will be suffering from some after-effects of the gunshot wound and that this will come through occasionally; he'll grimace and shift in obvious discomfort when he's supposed to be working. And I'm hoping John will be watching all this, remembering the long-lasting pain that came with his own gunshot wound and will, gradually, fall out of love with Mary when he fully realises the ripples of her actions.

(I know, I'm terrible).

I'd also like to see Sherlock and John get back to a happy place; hoping that Series 4 will be the calm after the storm.

Hi everyone

Wanted to write in about this as this has been something that's been on my mind a lot since Series 3 came out and since I saw some of the ways in which fandom has approached all the negative emotions of it.

There's a lot about Series 3 that makes my own hackles rise and it doesn't take much - Mary threatening Sherlock, John not seeming to care about Sherlock's actions or about Reichenbach - that makes them rise further. The anger I feel as what I perceive to be a lack of care about Sherlock's thoughts and feelings is alarming; I can get very annoyed with John and Mary, very quickly and John's anger makes the series as a whole a very volatile look at their lives. I know you can't blame him - his best friend has returned from the dead and his new, pregnant wife is an assassin - but the change is an alarming one. I know the answer is 'don't like, don't read' but there are fics of Sherlock suffering directly as a result of John's anger and they're always lingering on my mind; it hurts me to think of that as a possibility and I just want to wipe it all away and focus on the good. I just want to think about the nice things.

I'm sorry; I'm pretty protective of Sherlock following Series 3, but it's things like this that make series 3 hard to watch and make me worry for the future of John and Sherlock's relationship because it feels as though John is just blaming Sherlock for a lot of the things going on at time, both in the show and on the blog. The trouble is every time I try and write a soothing post Series 3 fic, I feel I have to go through that anger first and that makes me feel angry in turn, which is a worrying reaction to have. I just get so angry at John and on Sherlock's behalf and it just feels like a great big ball of something, waiting to explode.

What are your thoughts on this? I know it's just a television show (famous last words) but it bothers me that I get so het up about what happened in Series 3. I can get rankled at fictional characte

Honestly, I think it was a huge mistake, bringing in BC's parents to play the Holmes'. It filled in too many gaps and really doesn't make sense when you look at Sherlock and Mycroft as individuals; in fact, it just makes the way they are seem slightly pretentious, rather than giving deeper reasons for why they are how they are (which many fanfic writers, including myself, believed to be the result of a rough childhood and at the very least, an abusive father).

And yes, I think Mycroft can love. Maybe he's just scared to. Maybe they both are.

Hi all,

All in the title, really.

Four years ago, I began a genderswap/Unilock fanfic and I had a beta-reader with whom I discussed most of the story and helped me further. However, due to a variety of RL issues, the story has not yet been finished and my beta-reader and I have lost touch.

Has anyone on here had any beta-experience and be willing to help me beta and get this story to the finish-line, or be willing to point me in the direction of somewhere I can get it? I'm very fond of this universe and it seems a shame not to finish when I'm so near the end, even if it's the only piece of work I do. Also, due to a complete lack of confidence, I don't at present feel as comfortable without a beta-reader.

Any help would be very much appreciated, thankyou.

Oh, I love the toe-curling stuff! That warmth that comes over you when you find something you like - yeah, I'm a romantic.

There are some 'baddie Mary' fics out there, aren't there? Interesting. Wonder how she'll be in S4.
