Yes, this is what I meant. Sherlock is very emotional, but chooses (or at least tries) to not express part of his emotions to not endanger his work. Similarly he is a sexual person, but chooses to not express the part of his sexuality that would involve another person. I think both are done to minimise the effect the outside world can have on his mind.
I completely agree with you. This reminds me that in the episode "the last vow" when Magnussen looked at Sherlock through his glasses he saw so many pressure points
I think that this is a demonstration that he actually cares about so many people and things but he constantly tries to hide it, and that's what happen also for the sex question. He curbs everything that could possibly let him emotionally involved in order to not compromise his mind.
But...... as Vhanja said:

I've tried a semestre of Chinese but dropped it -too many people in the lecture theatre, an uninteresting teacher (most probably because of the number of students. I think I would have failed even if there were an ideal number of students...
Wow I think Chinese is one of the most diffult languages to learn. So many ideograms with such different meanings!
I have a friend who is studying it but she's slowly becoming mad poor girl.

What languages did you learn, then?
Well...I studied French when I was in middle school but...I don't remember almost anyting (I know I'm terrible D: I hate my stupid little brain). I can greet, count and ask some basic questions such as "comment ça va" and "quelle heure est-il". Yes...terrible
Ah I also tried to learn some japanese but I miserably failed ahah

Ahah that quote <3
Thank you Harriet! Wait, does your nick come from the book "the girl with the dragon tattoo" instead? :3

By the way, did you see "Il Capital Umano"? What did you think of it? I think it came out last year, and is based on the American book "Human Capital" by Stephen Amidon. This was an engrossing mystery! I'm so curious about the Italian movie version.
I know the film! But I haven't seen it yet it's in my list of "film that I have to watch". It really inspires me! I definitely need more free time, university is taking my soul away

Unfortunately I watched the film so I don't know him that much but I'll investigate :D

"Benvenuto", ugh, I apologise.
Don't worry! I know in most of languages "welcome" doesn't have the gender :D
In french too if I remember well

April your comment really touched me! When we speak about our passions age, gender, nationality don't count, I will probably be a fan of Sherlock till the end of time ahah.
I've never been in USA! If one day I'll manage to come I'll definitly call you *Sherlockians united <3*
Waa I use Pinterest too! A mental and economical travel around the world :D
Also if one day you will come to Italy please let me know! And when you say that you know some wonderful Italian-americans I hope you're not referring to the ones of jersey shore because I really hate that show ahah.
Anyway I definitly agree with you about British accent

That sounds lovely. We always spend our holidays in Umbria. Well, whenever we make it to Italy, that is.
Umbria is a beautiful place for holidays, full of green parks and historical cities. I live in Marche which borders with it
General Sherlock Discussion » Why is the world obsessed with Sherlock? » March 27, 2015 3:50 pm |
Such a beautiful question!
According to me the success of the show, aside from the actors, depends on the quality of the direction! I mean there are a lot of thin features that wake your brain up, such as for example the text messages that aren't read but displayed on the screen, or all that perfect shots that let you say "Oh, I understood! Elementary Watson". What i am trying to say is that you don't watch it passively but it's like you're part of the show.
I think also the lenght is important. Every episode is meaningful and in the end it's like you're watching nine films instead of nine episodes lol.
Last but not least the waiting. The more we wait the more the obsession grow

Ah I didn't specify it but I'm a girl anyway. I always use Mela as a nickname (which means "apple" in english) and it's a female word in italian so i took it for granted.
