That's awesome... thanks for sharing! I'm definitely going to have to dig out my Princess Bride DVD and watch it again. It's been awhile!

I love Sherlock and Ben about equally, so I'm very much enjoying the gif!

"Well, I've never been to ComicCon but I"ll give it a try.  Might be fun."

*sigh*   Love him.

Haha, I can imagine him having that conversation! The more I learn about the man, the more I love him. He just seems so fun loving and easy going. I get a "this is a special person" vibe from him whenever I watch him in interviews or see him in photos like the ones from ComicCon.

Sheesh, I don't think I've been this enamored with a celebrity since I was about fourteen years old.

This makes much more sense to me than them setting it up in the first place.  There are quite long gaps between the series', and presumably gaps in the writing of it, so I can see scope for the writers to change their minds about the characters, to see them in a new way or just want to do something different with them after a break.

Exactly. Writers have the perogative to change their minds about their characters, or to try out new ideas. That's one of the most fun things about writing!

I honestly find this discussion odd.
Do people normally watch TV shows and expect 2 guy leads to end up in a relationship?
When one doesn't do realtionships and the other is married to a woman.

Speaking for myself, as a general rule, no, I don't expect two male leads from a show to end up in a romantic relationship. In fact, I rarely ship characters from TV shows or movies at all. However, there's something special about Sherlock and John and their relationship that makes me feel they'd make a great couple.

Regarding their current statuses, we know that Mary will likely be out of the picture eventually, leaving John no longer married to a woman. As far as Sherlock, he originally didn't do close friendships either, but that changed when John came into his life. Why couldn't he change as far as relationships as well?

For me personally, when I bring up the fact that The Moftiss has lied in the past, I'm not waving my Johnlock flag and saying they are absolutely, without a doubt, lying about Sherlock and John's relationship. I'm just saying that, based on their history, we shouldn't take their words as gospel.

Of course, there's also the possibility that they may in fact have no current plans to take the relationship beyond a bromace, but they could always change their minds as the stories develop. I've done some writing myself (not fanfic), and sometimes my characters take me in a completely different direction than I've originally planned.

Introductions Please... » Hello from Dubious Thoughts, UK » July 22, 2014 4:30 am

Welcome from another one who is relatively new. I've only been in the Sherlock fandom for roughly two months now, so I can relate to that "out of depth" feeling. I've spent most of my time here so far reading theads, which has helped.

It's always good to have another Johnlocker on board! There seem to be quite a few of us here.

Introductions Please... » Hello all from Dallas TX! » July 22, 2014 12:58 am

Nice to meet another new Sherlock fan! I've only been on the forum a few weeks, and so far, it seems like we come from all age groups (many are what the high school and college-aged people would consider "older.") It's interesting how much Sherlock draws such a wide variety of fans.

There's also the fact that you're never too old to fangirl (especially over somebody like Benedict).

I love this quote:
“Finally I can photobomb myself!” joked Cumberbatch. “What a weird and wonderful compliment to be included in the ranks of talent already committed to wax. I've been accused of being wooden in my work but never waxy!"

I'll have to make sure to pay a visit to Tussauds if I ever make it across the pond again!

Not meant to be johnlock but a very well thought out read.

I spent the better part of the evening reading that. In fact, it's keeping me up well past my bedtime! Definitely worthwhile though. I'm glad to finally have some explanations that make sense regarding why John kept looking away from Sherlock during the airport scene, and especially why Sherlock encouraged John to stay with Mary. I still can't forgive Mary for what she did, but at least I can understand why Sherlock seemed okay with her.

Thanks for sharing!

Sigh... don't laugh. No yeah, a lot of people don't find him attractive, which I found rather incredible. People are always saying John is cute, I hardly know what that means. Maybe it has to do with how human he is?

I wasn't laughing at you guys. I was laughing at myself! When I look back at the time I thought Sherlock wasn't attractive, I now wonder, "What in the world was I thinking???" As far as using the word "cute" to describe John... I wish I could find it, but I saw a pic somewhere (I think on this forum) that had a photo of a kitten on one side, and Martin Freeman on the other side. It said something like, "There is no difference." I know it's not much of an explanation, but it's the best I can think of at the moment.

Regarding the attractiveness of Sherlock and John - I had to chuckle a bit at this discussion, because I'll be honest. When I first started watching the show, I didn't find Sherlock the least bit attractive. I knew that many people did find him hot though, and I kept wondering why. On the other hand, I thought John was adorable right from the start (perhaps because I already loved Martin as Bilbo and kept seeing him as that cute little hobbit). However, as I continued to watch, Sherlock gradually became attractive to me, and now I think he's gorgeous. I still think John is cute, too. I don't really see one as being hotter than the other, but they are both attractive in different ways.

Possibly we all speak from our own experiences.
The 1st Sherlock forum I belonged to was run by a guy who was vehemently anti Johnlock.
The last one, well I don't know the girl's personal views, but certatainly Johnlock was prominent on the forum.
I certainly get the feeling in the fandom in general, Johnlock is the majority view.
So I personally see no reason for Johnlockers to feel like any kind of persecuted minority and I can't say I've witnessed any behavour from anybody on here(or anywhere, actually), that should make them feel that way.

I didn't mean to imply that I thought Johnlockers felt like a persecuted minority, and I agree that there seem to be more Johnlockers than anti-Johnlockers. However, that doesn't change the fact that I've seen quite a few negative comments directed toward Johnlockers. Not so much here, but in comments on articles about Sherlock, comments on Youtube videos (granted, I should know better than to read Youtube comments), etc. I'm not saying that those comments are dominant - they're not - but they're there. I haven't seen such statements directed toward those who prefer to ship Sherlock with, say, Irene or Molly (to clarify - I'm not saying that fans of Adlock or Sherlolly aren't asked to defend themselves. I'm just sayin

Haha, my thoughts were definitely in disarray after I watched it. In fact, when I finally got my own Sherlock DVDs last week, I watched series 3 a second time rather than go back and start over again from the beginning. I have so much I want to say about it, but I just can't seem to get my thoughts to settle down enough to write coherently about it.

I confess that I thought there was something besides just friendship between Sherlock and John well before I watched the third series, but that just solidified it for me.

Mouse wrote:

My question is, why do people put so much time and analysis into supporting an opinion that can't be definitively proven until and unless it's actually written into the show?

Maybe I took too many literature and film classes in college, but I don't see anything unusual about people spending so much time on this. In my classes, we were taught to "read between the lines" when reading literature and watching movies, and to look for the subtext. We also had to support our interpretations, which is exactly what the meta authors are doing.

I only recently discovered the awesomeness of Sherlock, and in my limited time in the fandom, I've seen Johnlockers being asked to explain themselves time and time again. I've seen them called sick, twisted, and delusional (while I haven't seen them called such names on this forum, I have seen them questioned). That could also be why some people spend so much time defending their interpretations.
