To some it is long and boring, to others it is a masterpiece. I was once in the former camp but later I ended in the latter camp. I caught it again one time on TV (a big screen TV and commercial-free of course), not only did I finally “get” the film but it blew me away and now it is one of my all-time favorite movies.  A captivating and stimulating epic adventure, it begins with the fascinating “Dawn of Man” and later the man vs machine drama “The Jupiter Mission” (with Hal-9000) and the final act “The Jupiter Mission and Beyond”, which is an awesome “trippy” cosmic sequence leading to the film’s surreal, mysterious ending.

Apart from this film, how do feel about other films by Stanley Kubrick such as “A Clockwork Orange” (which I also loved), “Barry Lyndon”, “The Shining”, “Full Metal Jacket”, or “Eyes Wide Shut” (which I still haven’t seen).

We still don’t if the show’s coming back (though I’m sure we will find out soon enough). However, let’s say it is over, are you ok with show ending things the way it did in this episode?

As a “Season Four finale”, I think it was very entertaining. An emotional roller-coaster ride as it got to the core nature of Sherlock but if it is the show’s last episode then I think it is a kind of lousy and messy way to go out. It did have flaws as there have been many who weren’t convinced by its plot (though to begin with the show was never supposed to be 100% realistic). It did have the feel and impact of a Hollywood thriller (with nods to horror movies like Saw and Silence of the Lambs). I always imagined the finale of the series to have been something totally different but Mofftiss don’t cater to what we want or dream about nor should they.

If there is going to be a fifth season in the not so distant future, then I’m looking forward to it. However, if it's the end then I will respect the decision but I will miss it very much. This has been a brilliant show even if it hasn’t always been perfect.

That wonderful beekeeping photo was from a deleted/lost scene. I would have loved to have seen it!

 For me its
- The roller coaster ride action and suspense
- Seeing Sherlock, John, and Mycroft together as team
- Eurus being a chilling and psychologically complex adversary
- The sailor disguise part
- The satisfying return to 221B at the end

Every episode was solid and exciting but if I'm going to rank them I would place TFP first, given how nail-biting and intense it is, a close second would be TLD with its devious villain and clever plot. TST would be the weakest but even that was a good episode that didn't disappoint.

The best since Season One or Two (I wasn’t a huge fan of Three at the time). To me, every episode was gripping and finale put me nail-biting suspense. I just watched it awhile ago on DVD.

However, prior to watching it, I read negative headlines (with ever reading the articles) indicating that it was “Sherlock Bond” or that it is becoming a “self parody.”

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/jan/16/sherlock-how-the-tv-phenomenon-became-an-annoying-parody-of-itself

Going into it I decided to keep my expectations low, which might have helped in me being able to enjoy it (in fact, that Sherlock had sister had been spoiled for me, although everything else surrounding it wasn’t).

So the point I’m trying make, does having low (or modest) expectations when seeing a new movie or season of TV show help or should you always hold something you love to high expectation possible? Your thoughts?

I never read any Doctor Strange comics or knew much about the character before I had seen the movie. So I never knew until right now that it was Doctor Strange that had Nolan took from not the other way around. So I'm glad that you both pointed that out.

I went to the movie theater and saw Doctor Strange just awhile ago. I haven't done perfect job at seeing all Marvel movies (there are some I've seen and some I've missed) but I felt I had to see this one since it has Benedict Cumberbatch in it. I really enjoyed it as far as superhero movies go I thought it was really creative and imaginative (even if it was inspired by Christopher Nolan a bit). Cumberbatch as expected was excellent in fact in good way it as it doesn't deviate too much from Sherlock as he has his same kind of intelligence, wisecracks, and charisma. He along with Downey Jr. are both Holmes actors as well as Marvel superhero actors, I'm sure Strange and Iron Man will cross paths in a future movie.

I also liked the last bit in between the closing credits with Thor asking for his help against Loki. A possible movie face off between him and Hiddleston would be cool too
