What is the use of having powers, Doctor, when one has no field upon which to exert them?

How can people be so talented?

This is a great one. And although the other ones are just as great, this is one I would DEFINITELY hang on my wall in a huge frame. Would be fantastic.

Oh yes, I'm a bit jealous... seeing these pieces of art and knowing that I am not able to draw a simple line.

Re: Fan art

I'm a bit jealous too!  But I do think art normally involves a lot of work.  I would bet that even the vastly talented have spent hours and hours slogging away at it.  If you want to start with drawing a line (and seriously, I did recently after hardly having drawn since school), I'd recommend www.drawabox.com, which literally starts with teaching you how to draw a straight line.  I also quite like "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain" by Betty Edwards.  It's an old book, so easy to find secondhand copies.   I'm not sure how the "science" of the brain theory holds up, but I think the stuff in the book is good anyway.  Both of these have the view that people can improve greatly through working at it, rather than needing to have natural talent, and there are some good examples of that in the Betty Edwards book.  And an actual art class can be so helpful: having somebody look at your work and give you pointers and new ideas.

I'm not directing this at you in particular, of course!  I just think it's sad that people in general are put off doing art because they think they aren't good enough.  I'm probably speaking to myself as much as anyone! :D

Mind you, I agree that the pictures here are amazing and look like they would be impossible to achieve!  But something to aspire to?

Re: Fan art

Thank you for your suggestions. To be honest I doubt that I have the discipline really to "learn" that skills. I think I will go on to admire the artists who do those excellent works.
I bought two simple books with advices for landscape drawing. Seems more realistic for my "possible" skills.
Just a try.
