Re: Terror attacks in France

And we must never allow terrorists to take our freedom.

That's so difficult but true.

Re: Terror attacks in France

sorry, by up through history I meant also now as well... but my main point is that true religion has nothing to do with terrorism.

It's so easy to blame a religious group for these acts... but if the people who did such terrible things were actually religious these things wouldn't be happening.

But I'm not here to fight, that was never my point, and especially not now.

Re: Terror attacks in France

I personally don't see the point of arguing whether people are religious or not.
They define themselves and point to their own motivation.
It doesn't mean everyone of a particular group is the same, but I think it's naive, crass and actually unhelpful  to deny the ideologies people choose to align themselves with.

Re: Terror attacks in France

The 'problem' here is that people in my country blame all moslem people or even people who look slightly different. That is breeding racism when an innocent teenage girl wearing a scarf can't cross the street without some idiot shouting 'terrorist' at her.

That is my problem.

Re: Terror attacks in France

It's a problem for us all to deal with.
Racism is never acceptable.
Any ideology is up for criticism, but personal abuse, threats and physical attacks are unacceptable.
You can understand passionate views, but there is a right way and a wrong way to deal with these.

Re: Terror attacks in France

I experienced it myself a few times over the years... even had bottles thrown at me from a moving car and racial slurs shouted at me... despite being from a Danish family. I happen to have darker hair and dark eyes, and tan pretty well in the summer... (I have a feeling my father might have had Spanish genes, who ever he is).

So yeah. Sorry if I don't like people blaming a whole group of people for the actions of a few.

Examples which can be compared to the IS attacks?

Re: Terror attacks in France

I am too tired to argue about this, but not everything is blared out to the media, and what about the drone attacks on civilian settlements or where civilians were accidentally in middle eastern countries etc. by western armies?

I don't want to argue either, I tried to make a simple note that you can not just blame one 'religion' or one 'race'.

This is not the time for fights.

And I'll leave now.

Re: Terror attacks in France

Oh, before I go. Maybe not 'recent' but still not too long ago...

How about IRA, or Rote Arme Fraktion (sorry if I misspell, it's been a while since I had German lessons) or what happened during the Olympic games in Munich? Was that 'moslem' people?

Re: Terror attacks in France

No, you are right. That weren't Muslims. Once more I didn't judge the Islam. And I don't judge Christians or Jewish people or any other religion. I don't blame a religion or a race. I blame rads who drag their religion or race into the dirt.

Re: Terror attacks in France

No, we try and deal with the facts of every outrage as it is.
There hasn't been an announcement about this one that I've heard, but one Brit Muslim spokesperson is already saying it bears all the hall marks of extremist Islamism. See many Muslims have no problem calling things as they are and dealing with it. Not sure why we can't all do the same?
If we're all grown up and intelligent,  we are capable of distinguishing between terrorists and peace loving people and I am frankly annoyed by any suggestion that we can't!
We know there are idiots who throw things and shout in the street, but that doesn't represent all of 'us' either.
Irish terrorism has not gone away, but certainly Islamist extremism is the scourge of our time.

Re: Terror attacks in France

I was really scared by this when I heard it on the news this morning on my way to work, because my brother and his wife and youngest child was in Nice yesterday. They sent Snaps of the parade. So I quickly sent him a text and luckily they had retired to their hotel (in a different city) earlier, so they weren't there when it happened.

Horrible, though. I can't think about it too much, because it's just too horrific. Innocent lives, dying for no reason. Coward's way of attacking.

Re: Terror attacks in France

Civilian attacks are always the worst and particularly the loss of young lives.

A former colleague of mine was due in Nice, but they heard the news and sailed on.

I was only glad I didn't know that she was due to be there.
