Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Hi Anci
Thanks for your comments about my comments. The stories I have recommended are definitely adult, but not porn for porn's sake.I used 'unspeakable' in a slightly ironic sense. I think that if you are going to have two adults in a love story, unless they are celibate, you have to have some sex there. Applies in both fanfic and 'real' books. Though, I have to admit, sometimes PWP (porn without plot) can be a giggle and I've learnt stuff that I never knew before. For example did you know that ...(haha, had you worried then)

Forgot to mention that the title of Composing Hallelujah comes from the Leonard Cohen/Jeff Buckley song, my absolute all-time favourite song.

Nope, I wasn't worried, because I probably *did* know that....

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Here's a rather sweet little counterpoint to those epic, multi-chapter fics I've been staying up all night reading recently - losing ZZZZ's      You can read this one about the same amount of time you can eat a bag of crisps.

This author hasn't quite reached the mature writing style of a madlori, but she's (I'm assuming female) almost there. There's a lot of tenderness tucked into the two brief scenes.  The author doesn't reveal how they end up where they are in the second part - but I think it's part of the charm. Nothing major here - just some sweetness that left me with some nice little 'feels'.

Oh, great! I bookmarked this and will look at it next. Right now, I'm wending my way through the tennis AU that was rec'd here earlier. The author's kissing scenes are absolutely thud-worthy. Something about a much-taller Sherlock, bending his head down to lay one on John that simply does it for me. Yes, indeedy, it does.  yum

And PS, what the heck are crisps? You're an American, gal. Call it what we call it, will ya? *just teasing*  Mmm, I haven't had any potato chips in a while. Some a those, along with some a that nice story, sounds like a delish combo. Lay's Sour Cream and Onion for me, please.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Just read The Sum of Us (Mostly Calculated by Everybody Else), the third fic ancientsgate recommended.   I quite enjoyed it, even though it's written in the present tense and I usually find that off-putting.  There were some fun lines in the story along with nods to the actual TV show.  I felt sorry for Molly.  This apparently is part four of a series and at some point I'll read the rest of it, too.  Thanks for the rec!

Just read the fic KeepersPrice mentioned on August 10, by lifeonmars, called Scrutiny.  I really enjoyed it and thought it was very well-written.  My favorite line was: "...are you trying to do your best impersonation of Anderson or did you remove the functional part of your brain without telling me?"

She titled this First is the Worst, Second is the Best. Kind of a character study, in a way. I think it needed a wicked lot of fleshing out (no pun! no pun! really!) to make it more interesting, but I dunno-- maybe in this case, it's true that less is more??  It was a short one.

I liked how Sherlock took care of John, looked out for him through restless nights. It was sweet, as you said. I would use the word tender.

Oh, and I loved how it started out with that brief scene from ACD canon. Interesting, how "old married" the original characters were.

Thanks for the rec--  keep 'em coming!

It had the boys as champion tennis players. i don't give a rat's arse about tennis but the story is BRILLIANT.

OK, I just spent the last two days reading this tennis AU. It was great, a look into a world I know nothing about, that of highest-level championship tennis. This was set around that year's Wimbledon, the players staying at the Dorchester. Sherlock had a private flat at 221b, of course. I know less than nothing about tennis, either, so I skimmed some of the boring BBC play-by-play stuff, just enough to still get what was going on. But I loved her Sherlock and John, and their building relationship was a marvel to read. Lots of nice smex, lots of kissing (yummmm.... and John thought yummmm about it, too, lol, as well he should). She did a good job incorporating Moriarty, Lestrade, Mycroft,  Clara, Harry, Molly, Sarah, Mrs. Hudson (I love Mrs. H in everything I read and see-- who could not love her?)  I enjoyed this one a lot. Thanks for the rec, as always.

My favorite lines were: "There was a clear division: life before Sherlock, and life after Sherlock, and in John's head it's almost comically similar to the Wizard of Oz. The past is black and white; then, one tornado of a day, a forgotten cane, a dead cabbie. A door opens, brass letters: 221B. Boom. Technicolor.

I liked that bit of imagery.

To those of you reading A Study In Winning, make sure you read the followup, A Study In Doubles, which continues the story and is a WIP (work in progress)

Could you put up a pointer to the beginning of that? I don't have much patience with WIPs-- in my experience, they're often not finished. MadLori, who wrote Performance in a Leading Role in this fandom, has an infamous WIP in Brokeback Mountain (Two Crows Joy)  that she hasn't touched in over 5 years. Even when pressed to do so, she won't say that she's done with it, although obviously she is. What a shame-- it was a wonderful story.  The idea of WIPs is a dangerous one for me!

I'm reading, reading, reading on the AU where John and Sherlock meet in rehab at the moment (The Minor Fall). The author needed a beta reader, and maybe a good Britpicker to make it sound more British, but it's not too bad, not unreadable by any means. Lots of love, lots of angst, so up my alley!

I know what you mean about WIPs. I found a very funny one about someone pretending to be John and writing a blog, but the whole thing is now an orphan account, so i will never know what happens, unless I write it myself...now that's an idea...

Don't be too concerned about Jupiter_Ash, though. She has been updating this periodically and also replies to comments, which is always appreciated.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

I liked this one for the most part. It's a fun (often funny) and sexy seduction story.  The author pretty much has their 'voices' but sometimes she just misses with it. I would have smoothed out a few lines I found a bit rought; but then, it's her story- not mine so I went along and enjoyed the ride. The author had a lot of fun with John being quite distraught over what's happening to him - but then there's a heartbreaking angsty moment when he feels everything about his relationship with Sherlock is irrepairable and lost forever. I do think the author has John's pride and his 'adorableness' down quite well and I always love both those sides of him

Yes, the whole reason I liked and recommended this little 'bag of crisps' about 'sleeping' together was how the two completely different situations both benefitted John.  The sex leading to the second part was well left to the imagination I think - what was important was the intimacy of the situation and how it helped John both times.  There was a sweet tenderness in her concept. It could have been better written - but the main idea was there and I think about this little story with lots of affection.

Here's the author's summary:
"Coming back from the dead can be a complicated business. With a new case on the horizon, rebuilding a life is one thing... rebuilding a friendship quite another. For Sherlock and John, things may never be just the same..."
It's quite long (82,329 words, 16/17 chapters) and rated M.

Unfortunately, it's not finished, which I didn't realize until I got to the end of what she's posted so far. But I think I got the idea. I thought her Sherlock voice and thought processes were spot on. They were absolutely hot for each other, but there was so much hesitating and questioning and thinking everything to death on Sherlock's part, I found it tedious after a while. I do regret that it's not finished, but it's okay. It was a good read while it lasted.

I'm going back to re-read Performance in a Leading Role now, for the 3rd time.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Not sure why I hadn't read this before, since madlori is one of my fave authors. This is long, rated PGish, an AU, except that Sherlock is Sherlock and does Sherlock work, and John is John and does John work. But this universe is...well, you'll see. It's different.

The Blog of Eugenia Watson

The author's synopsis: I like to think of this not so much as a blog but as the first draft of my inevitably best-selling memoirs. My Life In an Unconventional Family. How unconventional? Well, I live with my divorced parents and my dad's husband. How's that for starters? Trust me, it gets weirder. My name is Eugenia Watson, but you can call me Genie. I'm sixteen. This is my life.

I love The Blog of Eugenia Watson, nice to see Sherlock and John's relationship from someone else's point of view. Anything that Mad_Lori writes is definitely worth reading.

Re: Johnlock Fic Recs *warning - adult content*

Fanfic recs!  Yippee!  Looking back through these there are several I haven't read yet and I'll definitely be checking them out.  I might have a few to add later (I'm at work right now and will have to wait until I get home to look at the bookmarks on my laptop).

Sometimes I like finding good fics on my own, but most of the time there's just so much of it out there that it's easier to only read stuff that others have recommended.  I never really read slash fics before I started watching Sherlock, but now I can't get enough!

Hello, we're glad you found us. There only seem to be a few Johnlockers here on the forum, but we're a happy bunch, floating along through the warm shallows with our rose-colored slash glasses firmly attached to our faces! Happy reading, and yes, if you find stuff you like that you'd like to rec, please come by.
