tonnaree's poetry corner - A place for non-Sherlock works

Saturday afternoon radio

and I stumble into a song from the distant past

A song that rang out in static bursts from a transistor

taped to the handle bars of my bike

and the music hurts

The song washes over me like

sunlight and summer and ice cream melting down my hand

and the notes make my body ache

for my mother’s voice

for innocence

for a time when death had not touched me

and sadness was a broken toy

You have perfectly captured a certain feeling.  I miss my mother too. *hugs* (if virtual hugs are OK on this forum, and you don't mind them ).

Re: tonnaree's poetry corner - A place for non-Sherlock works

I never turned down a hug they are always welcome here.

I have often tried to describe the way certain songs make me feel.  Heard one of them Saturday and burst into tears.  Then I sat down and wrote this.  The words came to me this time almost like they were being dictated.

Re: tonnaree's poetry corner - A place for non-Sherlock works

I was discussing the effect of certain songs upon the memory only the other day. Funny how they can transport one back to a definite time and place.

Never thought about having a style before but I guess I do.

Re: tonnaree's poetry corner - A place for non-Sherlock works

Speak to me softly
in the night
words of love
and longing
desire me
take me
please don’t break me
I am fragile in
your light

Touch me gently
dawn has come
caresses die and
fade
love me
leave me
please believe me
my heart has been
undone
