Re: MI6 USB key with missile plans

Imagine if there were never any plans on the USB and it was all a ploy to see how far Sherlock would go... after all the entire episode was about Moriarty leading Sherlock on. But Sherlock wants everything to be fantastical and clever (sometimes in ways that appear ridiculous to everyone else.) And Moriarty is known to make Sherlock look ridiculous by using ploys that *look* more complicated than they really are...

But if that's not the case then it probably does look stupid to someone for whom security is their livelihood. http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/wink.png

Re: MI6 USB key with missile plans

It is just the modern equivalent of the paper plans in the canon. Artistic license.

Don't make people into heroes John. Heroes don't exist and if they did I wouldn't be one of them.

Yeah, it's literally a direct modernisation. I wouldn't get too bogged down in it. And it's true that you hear about these things on the news. Stuff getting leaked out, things going missing. Even on memory sticks.

Sorry to break your bubble that this would "never happen" but this hasn't just come from nowhere. It does actually occur occasionally.

Those people were trying to steal data...the guy in the story did it accidentally.  If you aren't trying to do so, it won't happen.

Re: MI6 USB key with missile plans

The guy who happened to leave his labtop in his car which than got stolen along with it certainly didn't do this on purpose.

The sad truth is that this kind of stuff happens all the time.

Then there's this quote....
John: You don't trust your own Secret Service?
Mycroft: Naturally Not. They all spy on people for money.

Re: MI6 USB key with missile plans

Also, I believe they made a point to state that he was just a clerk or something. So how DID he get the USB?
