religious/spiritual undertones in modern pop/folk/rock/etc...

A lot of my favourite songs have religious/spiritual undertones which I normally don't know about until I look up the lyrics. Since I'm not religious, this layer of meaning does not come to me implicitly & I have to access it explicitly.

Regardless of whether or not you are religious, do you think that the religious/spiritual dimension changes the way that you relate to songs that you enjoy listening to?

For me, after learning of its religious layer, it doesn't make me like the song or hate it anymore than I did before but I do end up respecting the singer/artist more than before, especially for the subtlety in the lyrics. I'd take spiritual/religiou pop over someone standing in the middle of the city square with a massive megaphone any day. The other side affect is that I am much less likely to sing the song myself when I am alone once I learn of its spiritual origins but it doesn't stop me from listening to it obsessively

What about you guys? Do you get affected? If so in what way?
