I wondered if he wished he could climb the walls and escape...like the gecko.

In the book he kind of dissociates during a moment of trauma and imagines he's the Gecko looking down at himself.

With me it varies.
Usually I will read the book first.
Often, a movie will be made of something I've already read so no problem there.  http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/happy.png

Sometimes it just depends on how I feel.

Hey, SusiGo...what an eye you have!
Oldie Goldie indeed.
Young, gorgeous, elegant, timeless!
Nice how you pinned it to Third Star.
I must also admit that, I'm a bit "Johnny Come Lately" when it comes to Benedict's work outside of Sherlock.
His "Sherlock" is so rich, fresh & multi-dimensional that I've had to ponder 🤔 who I liked more; he or Basil Rathbone (whom I've loved for many years) ~ more of a fan of Sherlock Holmes than a fan of who portrayed him.
*wait* did that make sense?!
Ha, well, happy to share as I broaden my horizons.

Welcome!  It's never too late to fall in love with Ben.  http://cdn.boardhost.com/emoticons/grin.png
And you can still love all the other Sherlock's too.

An interesting article by a former heroin addict, comparing his own experience with the novels and the show:

Excellent essay.  Thanks for posting that Susi.

I signed up for the news letter.

Feeling nostalgic.  This weekend will be a year since I went to the Sherlocked convention.  It was wonderful even if BC was not able to attend.

LOL  Hugo Weaving is considered Royalty in the Geek community because of all the genre films he's done.  He's been part of some big time films like the Lord of the Rings and The Matrix trilogies.  He's also a part of the Marvel universe.  But he is very versatile.  One of the very first things I ever saw him in was Pricilla, Queen of the Desert where he played a drag queen!

Oh, and Yitzock, the gecko will have significance in the second episode.

Looks like it's from around the time of Third Star.

Hugo Weaving was freaking terrifying in the second episode.  I swear the quality of his acting made it even harder to watch.  In the hands of a lessor actor the role could easily devolve into a cartoon villain.

I like the fact that for a "Zombie movie," they didn't focus on the zombies.  And that it was such an intimate story.  They didn't try to show us the whole world, just what happened to this one family.

I wouldn't mind putting a spoiler alert in the heading.  I just wonder if there are people interested in the movie that might still want to hear opinions without being spoiled.   Just for now let's keep putting major spoilers undercover.

And I watched it last night.  Was honestly sobbing by the end.

When we first heard Martin was doing this I went and watched the short film it is based on.  So, the spoiler wasn't really a shock to me.  It's also the reason I knew Martin was going to nail this one.

have a question about the scene in the hotel room when Patrick tries to kill himself. He cannot open the window, not even when he smashes the urn against the pane. When he wakes up in the morning, the window is wide open. Is this to be understood symbolically (him choosing life although he could end it)? Because we never see him manage to open the window.

I thought about that a lot.  One idea I had was that he only imagined he couldn't open the window.  That there was one little piece of his soul left that didn't want to die and held him back.

Just writing that made me want to cry.
